Six of our board members attended a conference held in the Embassy of the United States to Italy. We were honored to meet Mrs. Mi’Jan Celie Tho-Biaz, a Kennedy Center Citizen Artist, oral historian, and documentarian. She provided valuable insights into the practice of oral history and its role in connecting communities and individuals from diverse backgrounds. In her efforts to honor and uplift these communities, she collaborated with the 2024 National Council on Public History to document the history of BIPOC communities in California.
Additionally, our board had the chance to learn about Story Feast suppers, which intermingle the nourishment of the body with the nourishment of the soul by creating a safe space for people from different backgrounds and experiences to share their stories. Our members also got an insight into the difficulties of being an oral historian, and the subtleties behind connecting different leaders from different cultural, economical, or political backgrounds. Our deepest thanks are directed to Mrs. Mi’Jan Celie Tho-Biaz, to the U.S. Embassy, and to the Youth Council for making this event possible.
